Baker E-Bikes was founded by Ken Baker, a longtime bike industry product developer and a lifelong bike enthusiast. Ken has always loved making custom bikes, riding them, and dreaming about designing his own. With the rise of pedal-assist bicycles—commonly known as e-bikes—and a recent encounter with legendary frame builder Dale Saso, Baker E-Bikes was born. Utility e-bikes, or cargo bikes, are the future for most, if not all, households. This is already happening in other countries, and it makes sense to have a vehicle that allows for running errands and getting around town swiftly and efficiently. Additionally, during charging times, we must consider the strain on the power grid; for example, if every household had an electric car intheir driveway, it wouldn’t be feasible with most countries’ power grids. Observing the current urban/cargo e-bike landscape, Baker E-Bikes identified a gap.
We offer a cargo bike that is easy to handle, rides like a normal bike, can be wheeled into the house like a normal bike, can be placed on a bike rack on a car like a normal bike, and can be parked and locked just like a normal bike. It is custom-made in the USA using premium components and can be outfitted with unique accessories to enhance the riding experience. The best part? It looks cool, and you won’t feel like a fool riding a cheap fire hazard with huge rubber tires that you can’t repair yourself.
Who is Dale Saso? If you’re familiar with custom bicycle frame building in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, you likely know who Dale Saso is. He has been building custom steel frames since 1972. He got his start in the bike industry as the owner of Taylor Street Bicycles in San Jose, CA, which he enjoyed, but frame building, repairs, and fabrication became his focus and passion. Dale builds high-end road cycling frames, touring, track, and some MTB; however, his affinity for the cycle truck—or butcher bike—truly fueled his creativity. He made his first cycle truck in the early ’70s and has since crafted tandem cycle trucks and built cycle trucks for companies (see image: Philwood & Co). Some might consider Saso the godfather of the modern cycle truck, with more than 40 years since he built his first one. Continuous improvements have led him and Baker to his latest creation: the Cycle E Truck.
